Monitoring Growing Smiles

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontic evaluation by age 7. Most children do not require treatment at this age, but an early evaluation allows us to monitor development, identify potential concerns, and determine the ideal timing for treatment if needed. In some cases, early intervention can help guide proper tooth eruption and prevent more significant issues later. Other times, the best treatment is simply keeping an eye on development.

Monitoring First, Treatment When Needed

In many cases, no treatment is needed. Instead, we simply monitor your child’s growth and development through periodic checkups to ensure everything stays on track. During these visits, we evaluate tooth eruption, jaw development, crowding, bite alignment, and other factors that may affect future treatment needs.

Sometimes, early intervention is recommended to guide proper development and prevent more complex issues later. Treatments may include:

  • Palatal expanders to create space and correct bite issues
  • Limited braces to address specific concerns
  • Strategic removal of baby teeth to guide the eruption of permanent teeth
